On the 27th and 28th of October, Grade 5 went on an overnight camp to Fulton Park Scout Camp in Forth. On the first day of camp, we went to the Burnie Museum. After we arrived, the teachers split us up into our classes and then we all had a tour of Federation Street and the display room. After each class had their tours, we stopped for our recess. 20 minutes later, all of Grade 5 were back on the bus. Our next stop was the Don River Railway.
Once we got off the bus we stopped and ate our lunch. After some quick toilet runs and putting our bags back on the bus, our classes were split up into boys and girls for a tour of the railway. After we completed our tours, we examined the train that we were going to be riding on, which was a first-class train! Once we were all aboard, everyone found a partner to sit with. At the end of the track, all of us got to watch the train turn around, which was super cool! After we headed back to the bus, we were all excited because we were going to our campsite!
We arrived at Fulton Park at around about 3:45pm. The teachers told us who was in our cabin and then they directed us to where we needed to go. They told us to go set up our beds, (bunk beds). When that was finished, all of us had 2 hours of free time to do whatever we wished. Time flew as it was time to get ready for dinner. Most of us had showers and the rest of us helped set up for dinner. The menu was spaghetti bolognaise and the vegetarians got pumpkin soup. After dinner we all washed our utensils. After washing up, we ate dessert which was delicious chocolate pudding.
After washing up again, the teachers told us all to go put our pyjamas on. Then it was time for the movie. The whole of Grade 5 watched a film by Roald Dahl about crocodiles and part way through that, we swapped movies because it was very boring. The movie that we started after that was called the Never-ending story which was very interesting. But halfway through the movie, Mrs Meldrum and Miss Smith told us that it was time for bed, but no one approved. Once we hopped into bed, the teachers allowed us to either talk quietly or read a book. Majority of us chose to chat quietly to the people in our cabin, whilst very little of us chose to read a book. We all got to sleep very fast.
When all of us woke up, Miss Smith instructed us to pack our bags, get dressed for the day and clean our cabin (including sweeping). After that, we all headed to the common room where we ate our breakfast. The choices were: Rice Bubbles, Sultana Bran, Cornflakes or Toast which had multiple spreadings. After that we washed up our dishes and started packing our lunches for our big day ahead. After packing up the common room and collecting our luggage, we all hopped on the bus. We were heading to the Hive in Ulverstone.
Once we got there, we started to eat our recess for roughly fifteen minutes. When we finished eating, we were separated back into our groups. Our rotations went for 30 minutes each. First 5M went to the museum while 5P were at the science centre, testing their model cars. After that, both classes switched rotations. This went on for the rest of the day until we ate lunch.
When lunch ended, 5P went to the planetarium, whilst 5M went to the Mineral workshop. Then we swapped. After no time at all, it was time to head back to Burnie Primary. We thanked the Staff that worked there for showing us around. Then we hopped back on the bus. We arrived at school at 2:30pm and greeted our parents who were there to collect us. Grade 5 had a great time on camp!
