In the lead up to NAIDOC week next week, I would like to acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal communities as the traditional custodians of the land we live and learn on, and pay my respect to the elders past present and future. I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding education systems they have for passing on intimate knowledge, skills and cultural learning for over 40 000 years. We continue to learn about Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and history as adults, alongside our students in many cases, as a result of Tasmania’s more recent ‘history’. Aboriginal sovereignty of these lands has never been receded and we acknowledge the hurt that this continues to bring to communities. Education continues to be important in the reconciliation of our state and country, to right the educational ‘wrongs’ of the past to create preferred futures for us all. We aim for every week to be NAIDOC week where we can celebrate one of the oldest living cultures in the world.
The Term break signifies the half way mark in our school year and provides a perfect time to reflect on the learning we have achieved so far this year as a collaborative, creative and innovative learning community. We have been able to do this more formally in Parent – Teacher discussions last week and I have been pleased to see the high number of parents in to continue the discussion about your child’s learning, and to enhance the working relationship we have with you as parents and carers in learning.
We welcome back Miss Meaghan Hosking to Grade 4 next term as she covers for Miss Jana Kalweit who will be enjoying quality time with family on her long service leave in Terms 3 & 4.
I would like to wish everyone in our school community a happy and safe Term break. A reminder that Monday 25th July is a Student Free Professional Learning Day, and we welcome all students back to school on Tuesday 26th July.

During term 2 we have been focusing on the learning assets we use at Burnie Primary. These are: I am a Collaborator; I am a Communicator; I am a Thinker; I am a Self-Manger, and I am a Researcher. Each week we had a different challenge or experience that focused on one or more of these assets.
Thank you to the brillant work of our P&F for the behind the scenes and during the rush of allocating all the Pizza today....

Parent Breakfast Club - term 3 Survey
This survey is expiredOn the 28th of June 2022 Grades 3-5s competed in the Burnie Eisteddfod. They represented Burnie Primary School at the Arts and Functions Centre. They sung Old Man Emu and Music Speaks Louder Than Words. The schools that we competed against were Romaine Primary, Montello Primary, Cooee Primary and Stella Maris. In the second section there was Penguin District, Spreyton Primary, Boat Harbour Primary, St Brigid’s Catholic School and Leighland Christian School. Leighland Christian School came first. They may have not have won but our Burnie Primary Choir tried their best and still competed.
