I would like to firstly acknowledge the difficult times we are facing currently, and our main focus is on how we can work together to get through these times. Thank you for your support in being able to keep your child at home where possible this week and your messages of support for us here at school as we remain committed to your child’s education during this time.
With the last day of Term 1 concluding tomorrow, it is an opportunity to reflect on our Burnie Primary School vision of a collaborative, creative and innovative learning community. In today’s newsletter there is an information sheet on how we intend to continue a learning program for students next term, considering that at this point in time the advice we have been given is that Term 2 will start with the same arrangements that we have seen this week.
We will continue our preparations for these individualised learning at home packages on the student free days next week. You will be able to collect your physical package from the first Monday of Term 2 (27th April) it will include a wide variety of materials from stationery through to learning games and activities that will be individualised depending on your child’s learning needs. On the same day your child will receive their learning plan for the week that will outline the learning opportunities planned by their teacher. This plan will be sent out on the Seesaw app. We will ask that students submit the three essential learning tasks (there will be plenty of other optional and extension tasks offered as well) by the Friday of each week if possible, so that teachers can then assess the learning and continue the learning through various means of contact with your child. These essential tasks will also have explanation videos from your child’s teacher to further explain the task, providing clarity and the connection to your child’s teacher that we really value. These same learning at home tasks will be provided to students who are attending here at school to keep class continuity and equity.
It is important that you have access to the Seesaw app for your child’s contact with their teacher and the Schoolzine app that will be the communication tool for our school community. If you have no way of accessing these apps either from your phone or a device then please make contact with our front office before Thursday next week so we can arrange something for you.
Mrs Nayler starts her period of maternity leave next term and Miss Hosking will be working with 4N for the rest of the year. On behalf of our Burnie Primary School community we wish Meg and Klay all the best with the upcoming birth of their first child. Mr Van Raay will finish his contract tomorrow working on Friday’s with 5H. We look forward to Mrs Best returning next term to our team.
One of the hardest things that staff here at school are dealing with is the connection and contact with your children. We miss them and the life they bring into our Burnie Primary School community. We wish you all a safe, albeit a different school holiday break, and look forward to re-engaging with you and your children next term as we all work together to get through these challenging times. We will get through by working together as part of our Burnie Primary School community.
