It has been a privilege to be part of our Burnie Primary School community! Over the past two weeks I have witnessed the high level of parent and community involvement that sends a collective message to all students that we all really care about them and we want to see them learn and achieve at their true potential in a collaborative, creative and innovative learning community.
Although the weather for the Athletics Carnival didn’t treat us kindly today, we have made provision to select our Burnie Primary School Athletics team through running time trials during PE and have given all Grade 3-6 students the opportunity to show their best effort during the 800m run on Wednesday.
Next Wednesday Mr Dome and Mrs Van Essen will travel to Penguin Athletics Centre with our school team which will participate in the NWPSSA Athletics Carnival. I am positive that all of those students selected will represent Burnie Primary School with pride and distinction and will give their best effort for Burnie Primary! We will look to reschedule our Athletics Carnival to Thursday 19th March.
We value parent input into our school community here at Burnie Primary School. The School Association and Parents and Friends groups provide one way of being involved in the running of the school. Thursday 26th March is the first meeting of these groups for the year. School Association starts at 6pm and P&F at 7pm. All are welcome to both meetings! Congratulations to Emma Baker and Stacey Wilson who are our new and continuing parent representatives on the School Association. Our sincere thanks goes out to Stuart Rattray, who has contributed to the School Association as our outgoing President.
Friday 20th March, Burnie Primary School will be participating in the ‘National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence’. We have registered for the event and committed our school to continue the conversation about not just bullying but student wellbeing and behaviour. We will be conducting a number of activities that will continue the positive actions and interactions that make it part of the way we do things here at Burnie Primary School.
A reminder to parents and carers that students are supervised here at school from 8:30am – 3:15pm. There is no supervision for students before or after this time. We have a before and after school care provider here on site at school that we encourage you to utilise, especially as we move into the cooler months.
Please consider our neighbours in Van Diemans Crescent and Curraghmore Avenue when parking to pick up or for special events such as our 800m runs and Athletics Carnival.
