Collaboration is a key to our vision of a collaborative, creative and innovative learning community.
Teachers have been busy preparing student reports which will go home next Friday, 28th June. We are sure parents and carers will appreciate the opportunity to read the reports and, in the following week, continue the discussion and collaboration in your child’s learning at Parent/Teacher discussions.
This term all teachers have had the opportunity to learn more about the ‘Seesaw’ app and its application in providing valuable evidence of student learning to parents and carers in real time. We recognise Seesaw as a valuable communication, and parent engagement, tool. All Grades now have access to a device (iPad mini) dedicated for capturing images of classroom learning and sharing through Seesaw.

Our Student Council provides a valuable ‘student voice’ to the Principal. They also organise activities such as ‘National No Bullying Day’ and school assemblies, SRC provide support for the Vinnies Soup Kitchen, and have weekly visits with the residents at Umina Park. The SRC are currently investigating improvements to the oval line markings, and looking into proposals for the upgrade of the playground equipment outside Grade 1. The costed proposals have been presented to the Principal and will provide valuable data for future school financial planning and P&F involvement. The P&F have committed to support the purchase of new playground equipment and have started organising a major raffle. Please consider supporting the raffle by initially looking at opportunities for providing prizes for the raffle.
Next term all students in Grades 3 – 6 will be participating in a ‘Student Well-being Survey’. The data collected will help inform practice within the school systems, and help recognise the important personal and social capabilities that we develop in students to allow them to learn at their true potential.
Burnie Primary School has been recognised as leaders in our State, and Australia wide. A team of film makers are working with Burnie Primary School students and staff to produce 6 short films for the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). ACARA developed the National Curriculum and Burnie Primary has been identified as the only primary school in Tasmania undertaking to meet the General Capabilities component of the Australian Curriculum, especially in the ‘critical and creative thinking’ through our STEAM program and its alignment to our Burnie Primary School Improvement Plan 2017 – 2020. These films should be released on the ACARA website next term, we will be excited to see Burnie Primary School on the National ‘stage’. Just another step in our ‘collaborative, creative and innovative learning community’.
