2024 Mid-year Communicating Learning Progress with Families - Kindergarten – Year 6
Over the next few weeks our teachers will be busy assessing and reporting in readiness for our mid-year reporting phase. This year, we encourage learning conversations between families, students and teachers. Opportunities to partner and work together to support your child's learning progress is our core business. We see 3-way conferences as a great way to identify the progress your child is making and a way of supporting further development in their learning. Parent-Teacher (Kinder-Grade 6) will occur between Monday, 24th June, through to Thursday, 27th June, with our late-night session scheduled on Wednesday the 26th of June. We would like to strongly encourage students in Grades 2-6 to attend with their parent / guardian and teacher. Students in Kinder, Prep or Grade 1 can attend these conversations in the classrooms if families feel this would be beneficial. Members of the leadership team and specialist teachers are also available via appointments during this week. More information on our online booking system will be sent out to families when it goes live.
Kindergarten learning conversations will involve sharing of information regarding students progress against the Kindergarten Development Check markers.
Student Agency and Voice at Burnie Primary School
We have 2 key ‘all year’ elected Leadership opportunities for Grade 6 students: Student Council and Sports Leader positions. Our student leaders prepared for leadership nominations and the election process in 2023 by choosing to nominate for one of the positions. Students prepared a speech to present to the 3 - 6 student group and accompanying staff. Students were elected by the combined voting results of their peers and all school staff. Our Year 6 leaders work closely with Miss Smith, Mrs Rawlings and Ms Crabtree to develop their personal leadership capacity.

Burnie Youth Council Representatives
This year we have 5 Makerspace Monitors. They are Charlotte, Diesel, Aiden, Eva and Cooper. This group of students were selected to be the monitors through showing a strong interest in visual arts and/or coding and robotics. The Makerspace Monitors have a variety of roles including:
- Running lunchtime clubs 4 days a week.
- Maintaining the equipment and materials in the Makerspace.
- Supporting events such as Science Week and Brixhibition.
- Mentoring students when visiting from the North West Support School.
The Makerspace is a very popular and busy area and the students always have a task that needs completing. Thanks to Charlotte, Eva, Aiden, Diesel and Cooper for the work you have done so far.
